wow..after some last minute doubts again..it’s finally here.
and i swear when she busted it out and i saw the wedding band, i got a bit misty. all my worries about it not being a girly enough ring are totally gone.
it’s not for everyone. but for those of you who know me, i have never worn little dainty girly rings. always big chunky silver.
the difference from the work in progress ring is quite big. if i ever liked the design before..now in the white gold - i love it!
and the pictures are lovely..but really don’t do it justice. when i am wearing it, it looks like a really beautiful band with a rock on top. and then you start noticing the detail. not so much as it is in the pictures where you are focusing on the detail.
i feel so engaged!!

some might think it’s not be the most romantic thing to get your ring after the proposal. but i disagree and here is why.
my proposal was really really romantic. and i think most ladies would agree that without the ring at that very moment..it would still have been special.
also you and your partner’s tastes may not be the same. and this ring is for the rest of my life.
and engagement rings are a fairly recent thing. and considering it’s a pretty new ritual, i think it’s appropriate for the lady to be able to pick what she likes. because not everyone even wants an engagement ring..you never know.
lastly, the experience of being able to create this has been fantastic. even if i had created a plain band, it would have been a great experience.
cara asked if they can use the blog on their site. so it only seems appropriate that i share their site and information as well. since i would highly recommend venerari.

stones are in. cara wanted to know if i wanted to have a brushed finish similar to what the inner band looks like now (which does not have the final coat of metal on it yet). or if i wanted to have the more swirly deeper brushing.

and in true client fashion, now that i have seen the ring(s) almost done i am changing my mind.
i have just asked to have the inner band finished in the same way the outer band(s) are. because i really actually love the shiny. and the softeness around the edges..super pretty.
i think that will help with the industrial-ness. and also tie-ing the two rings together more as one.

so haven’t seen it yet myself, but cara e-mailed pictures of the completed engagement band.

how pretty in the white gold. and also just a touch of softness around the edges made such a HUGE difference. overall the look is still very linear and architectural. but just that little bit of rounding on the edges and on the jobbies that hold the stone makes it just that touch ..organic, i guess.

i can’t wait until the inner (wedding) band is done!
cara from venerari sent me another photo just to double check for my approval.

so those are the cuts for the little diamonds. it looks like they were able to get a lot of clearance, so the stones will be a bit bigger than we thought.
the edges and overall lines of the ring will be softened. because it looks a bit like some sort of industrial washer. which is in a weird way actually what i want..but just softer.
this is also not the final brushed finish.
they said possibly by friday…i can’t wait!
(btw, i love the fact that they have a little light box set up and can take these pretty pictures. because as you can tell..my camera really sucks)
so the ring have now been cast. but they are still rough. not the final plating, or polish. so the colour is rough.
also the claws that hold the stone are still too long. the edges / corners are going to be rounded ever so slightly (just to soften the look a bit). also the wedding band (the one that fits in the middle, the square-ish one) will be in a brushed finish.
and there will be four triangles cut out of the corners of the wedding band and very small diamonds suspended in the holes.
one more week..so excited!

that’s with the wedding band on top, not worn inside the engagement band.

yeah, my stupid camera didn’t focus properly for any of the photo’s where i had the band inside the ring..
so here are some nice blurry images of them fitted into each other.

i mean, i still have to see it for real tomorrow. and then decide if i want little sapphires in the corners. but this is basically the ring.
the outer ring will be in traditional polished metal (gold? platinum?) and the centre square band will be in brushed metal.
now that i see them together i am a bit dubious about the rise on the engagement ring. i mean the way the ring angles up to meet the stone prongs. it now seems a bit out of the square/circle design..but i will see what they say.
i really really love the square band, i have to say..

and here it is on my busted assed beat housewife hands! look at the nailpolish! for shame…
all is approved and the actual ring will be done in a week and a half…so exciting!

(see the baby mum mum in the corner of frame? i was keeping wy complacent:)

sloan and nicola gave paul their ring sizer sheet for his birthday..so i have started wearing my size as a placeholder until we get the real ring:)
so they called to say that the wax mock-up of the ring was ready. so excitedly we went over. well, turns out it was only the engagement part (this is some of the typically australian stuff that, obviously, happens here all the time).
it was still exciting to see it. but i have to admit i am really really surprised that i went with something to very very basic. but each time i have this nagging doubt (like “really? of all the rings i have loved this is what i came up with?”) i remember that this is my engagement ring. not some 925 mexican silver. this is for the rest of my life. also the stone is what i love the most and it really sets the basis for it all.
so..excuse the mom hands with stubby pinks.

so you can really tell there is something missing.

and the setting looks really big and fat here. it actually isn’t. also you can kind of see that the stone is a lot lower. i think they thought i might have wanted it raised to make it all glamour…but the stone will actually sit as low as you see in the photo. and then the setting prongs will also be lower.

this is the basis for the design. our stone is square cut and will sit in a traditional 4-prong mount. the inner ring will no have stones.

we are going to see if it works, but the inner ring might have the shape of this ring mine will have the little corner stones. paul’s will not and be larger. also we may go with a brushed metal finish.

here is the ring above, but with the centre wedding band removed. you can also wear the wedding band on top (or below) this ring.

this is how it slips in. pretty cool..but when it’s together not too ‘gimmicky’ looking. it looks like one ring that belongs together.
